The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine is the mother
church of the Diocese of New York and the Seat of it Bishop. It is chartered as
a house of prayer for all people and a unifying center of intellectual light and
leadership.
The Cathedral serves the many diverse people of New York,
the nation and the world through an array of liturgical, cultural and civic events;
pastoral, educational and community outreach activities; and the preservation of
the great architectural and historic site that is its legacy. Their theology supports
the values of community, hospitality witness and stewardship which under grid this
mission.
Family Programs
The Cathedral's Public Education & Visitor Services
Department offers families a unique space in which to create and explore art in
its newly designed Medieval Arts Workshop. Programs are offered every Saturday for
children ages 4-11, accompanied by an adult. There are also seasonal opportunities
available for toddlers and their families.
Medieval Birthday Parties Saturdays & Sundays, 1 -
3 PM, by availability Celebrate your child's birthday in the Medieval Arts Workshop,
where children sculpt gargoyles, weave, make brass rubbings, carve a block of limestone
and much more! Children ages 5 & up. Walks and Talks The Cathedral also offers
a series of Walks and Talks. These are scheduled on a regular basis on a number
of subjects.
