Hall
of Ocean Life New York
Location: American Museum of Natural History, Central
Park West and 79th St., New York
Come visit the blue whale in the Museum's beloved Milstein
Family Hall of Ocean Life. Current scientific research and cutting-edge exhibition
technology combine to create a fully immersive marine environment with video projections,
interactive computer stations, and newly restored ocean dioramas.
The hall is still dominated by the famous blue whale model,
which now floats in a virtual ocean created through dramatic lighting, video, and
sound effects. The classic dioramas on the lower level, such as those that depict
the Andros coral reef, and school of leaping dolphins, and northern sea lions from
Alaska's Pribiloff Island, have been meticulously restores. The mezzanine level
of the hall features eight new exhibits on the major ocean ecosystems, which together
with tow new Spectrum of Life walls, highlight the extraordinary diversity of marine
life.
