Symphony Orchestra New York
Location: 280-00 Cooper Ave., #22, Glendale Queens
Symphony Orchestra (QSO) is the borough’s only professional
orchestra and the oldest and largest professional arts organization in Queens. The
vision and mission statements reflect the organization’s priority of service to
the culturally diverse members of the Queens community. QSO's outreach is successful
through several programs that enhance the musical offerings to the borough of Queens,
presenting 15 to 25 concerts throughout the year.
The Masterworks Concert Series presented in the artistic
home, Queensborough Community College Performing Arts Center, provides access to
outstanding, high quality classical concerts at discounted and affordable prices.
QSO will continue its ticket give-away program to senior centers, schools and social
service agencies throughout the borough, enabling Queens residents of all ages,
every ethnic/racial background and from every income level to enjoy the universal
language of music.
The Concerts on the Green, free summer parks series, offers
classical, pops, Broadway and opera selections in beautiful park settings throughout
the borough bringing seniors, families and young adults together for a fun and informal
event and helping strengthen community ties. The Music On the Move! Chamber Series
showcases QSO musicians in various venues such as libraries, senior and community
centers and town halls in hour-long performances of different ensembles, free of
charge, helping to continue our decentralization efforts. The Arts-In-Education
program is QSO’s way of educating the youth of Queens with no expense to the students.
That is part of the investment that we offer to future musicians.
