Times
Square New York
Location: Broadway between 46th and 47th streets, New
York
Times Square, probably the most photographed spot in midtown
Manhattan, is a collage of lights, billboards, people, noise, music, taxis, and
everything else that represents this amazing city. Sometimes called the "Crossroads
of the World", the Times Square area is the center of New York's midtown activity.
The area was renamed in 1904 (it was previously called
Longacre) to commemorate the opening of the brand new New York Times building at that location. In the years since, it's become a place to gather in awe of the neon
lights, clever billboard ads, and to watch the current news as it flashes past visitors
on a number of buildings around the square. Kids love the lights of the Square,
the amazing billboards, and the many great shops there, such as the Disney Store,
Hershey, Toys R Us with their giant ferris wheel, MTV, and ESPN. Restaurants are
everywhere and the choice of family-friendly cuisine is amazing.
Check out the vast selection on 46th between Broadway
and Ninth. Of course, Times Square has become most famous as the place from which
to watch the giant ball drop to signify the start of the New Year. Millions of visitors
gather there every December 31st for this incredible occasion.
