Overview:
Souvenir is dubbed a play and not a musical, but due to its subject matter, audience members will hear plenty of music. However, it won’t be the memorable kind that leaves you wanting to hear more long after you’ve left the theater.

This unusual play, which received favorable reviews in its off-Broadway preview last year, tells the story of 1920s Philadelphia socialite Florence Foster Jenkins, who deceived herself into thinking she was a talented classical singer when, indeed, she lacked any musical talent whatsoever.

The story line centers on her unusual career, her 12-year friendship with accompanist Cosme McMoon, and the strange following that the pair eventually gathered, culminating in a not-so-good concert at Carnegie Hall.

Though no one really knows whether Jenkins knew how bad she was, Souvenir goes along on the premise that she was blissfully ignorant of her lack of talent.

Broadway singer Judy Kaye, who really CAN sing in tune, does a wonderful job of singing badly and portrays the eccentric woman with great skill. Relative newcomer Donald Corran plays McMoon, who struggles with his love for good music and his friendship for Jenkins.
