Overview:
Set in a small-town Louisiana beauty parlor, Steel Magnolias is probably one of those Broadway shows that will mostly appeal to women though men should certainly give the deep characters and touching storyline a chance.

The story profiles a handful of Southern women whose lives come together each week at the local beauty salon.

They share the trials and tribulations of life, both funny and heart-wrenchingly serious.

The cast is stellar and is led by Delta Burke, who portrays Truvy, the owner of the salon. Much of the story centers on M'Lynn, played by veteran Broadway actress Christine Ebersole, and her somewhat fragile daughter, Shelby.

Actress Rebecca Gayheart, better known for her commercials than for her stage and screen appearances, assumes the role of Shelby. Marsha Mason and Frances Sternhagen (Sex and the City) round out the cast.

Steel Magnolias originally played off-Broadway in 1987 and become a hit motion picture in 1989, starring Dolly Parton as Truvy and Julia Roberts as Shelby.
