Fools In Love is great Shakes – a wild new take on Shakespeare! It’s a ’50s- vintage rock ‘n’ roll treatment of the Bard’s “A Midsummer Night‘s Dream,” replete with doo-wop music and such tunes as “Wake Up Little Susie,” “Unchained Melody,” “I Will Follow Him” and “Stop in the Name of Love.”
The play opens in Duke‘s Diner, with Hermia arguing on the phone with her father, who doesn’t want her to date the man she loves. The audience is soon swept up in a variety of funny situations set to music classics.
A crew of busboys, waiters and a cook yank off their aprons to join in the fun, and there‘s a “fairy world” in which roller-skating fairies spin out from a jukebox to dance.
The presentation is extremely family-friendly. In fact, pre-show activities include face painting, “tattoos” for kids and adults and Hula Hoop play. After the show, the audience is invited to take pictures onstage with the cast.
