Hairspray, set in Baltimore in 1962, is an over-the-top music where
everything seems to be big. The heroin Tracy Turnblad is described
as pleasantly plump, hair styles are enormous, and must of the songs
are energetic and loud.
But that’s okay.
This is a great musical that you won’t want to miss,
appropriate for the whole family. As a matter of fact, kids will love the sing-able songs
composed for this “large” musical, like You Can’t Stop the Beat and Good Morning, Baltimore.
Based on the 1988 movie of the same name, produced
by quirky John Waters, when Hairspray hit Broadway in 2002, it immediately earned 8 Tony
Awards, including the statue for Best Musical.
The musical tells the story of Tracy, a high school
student, who has just one dream in her life – to dance on the Corny Collins Show.
The story unfolds as her dream comes true and the plot thickens.
Some serious young talent wows the audiences in the
starring roles and will keep you laughing throughout the show.
Use New York City kids and make New York City fun for the kids...and you!
