Hot Feet is the perfect musical for dance aficionados. The talented Maurice
Hines moves his latest choreography – “Hot Feat” – directly from Washington
D.C.’s National Theatre to Broadway.
The new show, which features a score from Maurice
White, founder of the legendary ‘Earth, Wind and Fire,’ follows the story by Heru Ptuah,
which is a variation of the classic “The Red Shoes,” telling of the young and beautiful
Kalimba, who makes a fateful bargain in quest of her dream – to become a Broadway dancer –
and who is persuaded to dance in a pair of magical shoes. These shoes eventually take
control of her fate.
No stranger to Broadway audiences, Hines, who is
directing “Hot Feet” in addition to choreographing the show, made his Broadway debut in
1954 with his late brother, Gregory Hines, in The Girl in Pink Tights. He also starred in
Eubie, Sophisticated Ladies, and Bring Back Birdie.
The new show, which features sets by Jim Noone,
costumes by Paul Tazewell and lighting by Clifford Taylor, promises the double-barreled
entertainment of everything Broadway has to offer plus the excitement of dance as only
Hines can deliver.
