Macy's Herald Square
Location: 34th Street bet. Broadway & 7th Ave., New York
Hours: Mon – Sat 10am – 8pm, Sun 11am – 7pm
No one would have guessed that the
small, fancy dry goods store that opened on the corner of 14th Street and 6th
Avenue in New York City in 1858 would grow to be one of the largest department
store retailers in the country.
Macy's have stood the test of time. With it's thirst for innovations, they are
leading the way for new items in the store as well as outside the store. Recently,
they unveiled interactive windows using motion-detection technology that can be
activated by window shoppers.
The merchandise is surrounded by moving sculptures
of stainless steel and aluminum sheeting, copper pipes and springs that carry
electric currents and crash into each other, creating sparks and explosive sounds
broadcast to the street by speakers.
The action in the 9-foot-by-20-foot windows
will be triggered by the movement of anyone standing within 10 feet of the windows.
A site definitely worth visiting.
With 11 floors, Macy's has everything
you could possibly ever need in fashion, family, and home, the hottest new
styles, must-have brands, incredible sales, daily entertainment, cooking
demonstrations, and celebrity appearances. Macy's larger than life events
such as the Thanksgiving Day Parade, 4th of July fireworks, and the Flower Show
have become beloved American Traditions.
