The Metropolitan Pool & Fitness Center has a rich history. Built in 1922, the facility was designed by Henry Bacon, who also designed the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. Gertrude Ederle, who won fame as the first woman ever to swim the English Channel, was a member of the 1932 Metropolitan Pool swim team. Today, the renovated facility serves the community with a variety of programs and activities for all ages. The offerings include summer day camp and baseball league. For kids, there are after school programs, homework help and a playschool room. Other offerings are fitness equipment and programs, swim teams and instruction, computer resource center and more. Senior services are available as well for those in the golden years.
