The New York Jets, the city‘s AFL franchise, was organized in 1959 and the team played its first league game in 1960. Throughout the past 45 years, the team has been heartily supported by the city, especially during the 1960s when the famous Joe Namath was the team‘s quarterback.
The Jets became the first AFL team to win the Super Bowl in 1969, when they defeated the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, the only Super Bowl victory in the franchise‘s history.
Still, fiercely loyal New York fans flock to the NY Jets/Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ each season to watch their team battle it out on the field with their competitors from all over the country.
Visitors to NYC can easily access the stadium and going to a football is often a favorite activity for kids.
Currently, the franchise owners are proposing a new stadium for the Jets, conveniently located on the west side of Manhattan, to be called the NY Sports and Convention Center, a true state-of- the-art facility that promises to be a hit with visitors.
