Location: 103 Orchard Street, New York

The Tenement Museum of New York offers a range of tours aimed at bringing life to an important historical era. The age of the tenements spans some three decades before and after 1900. The period saw some tremendous changes in the lives of Americans, and no city faced those changes quite like New York. If you’d like to see history brought to life, consider the Confino Family Apartment tour. In this segment, a costumed actress portrays Victoria Confino, a teenager raised in Greece and recently arrived in New York.

The unique twist to this tour is that those taking the tour are welcomed into the Confino apartment as though they were long-lost cousins, newly arrived in America.

Try on period clothing and learn about New York though the eyes of a teenage girl who is fascinated with her new home.

Following any tour, take time for the Kitchen Conversations – a unique opportunity to engage in conversations with others who participated in the tours under the direction of a moderator.

Tours generally take about an hour. For special needs, contact the Tenement Museum prior to tour time. Foreign languages and American Sign Language are available with advance notice.
